HomeEnglishHub is a small, independent site. This policy explains, in plain language, what information is collected when you visit, why, and what choices you have about it.
What data is collected
Visiting the site itself doesn't require creating an account or handing over personal information. Data is only collected in these specific situations:
- Contact form: if you send a message through the Contact page, your name, email address, and message content are submitted to Netlify Forms so they can be read and replied to.
- Newsletter signup: if you subscribe, your email address is stored for the purpose of sending you English-learning tips and printable worksheets.
- Search and dictionary lookups: words you search for on the site are sent to a third-party dictionary API (see below) to fetch definitions. Nothing you search is linked to your identity.
- "Hear pronunciation" / "Listen to Article": when you use these features, the relevant text is sent to a text-to-speech service to generate audio. That text is not stored or linked to you afterward.
Cookies
This site uses:
- Essential storage (localStorage, not a traditional cookie) to remember your cookie-consent choice and, if you're on the search page, cached audio for words you've already looked up — purely to avoid repeat requests. This works regardless of what you choose below, since the site can't function sensibly without remembering your own preference.
- Optional analytics cookies, only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you click "Decline" or simply close the banner without choosing, no analytics cookies are set.
You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page.
Analytics
At the time of writing, this site does not have an analytics provider actively collecting data — the consent system is in place and ready, but no analytics script is currently loaded even for visitors who accept. If that changes, this section will be updated to name the specific provider, what it collects, and how to opt out directly with them.
Third-party services
The site relies on a small number of third-party services to work:
- Netlify — hosts the site and processes contact-form submissions.
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — generates audio for word pronunciations and article narration. Requests are proxied through the site's own server-side function; your browser never contacts Google directly, and no API key is ever exposed to you.
- dictionaryapi.dev — a free, third-party dictionary API used for the search bar's word-lookup feature.
- Google Fonts — serves the typefaces used across the site.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal data is held about you
- Ask for it to be corrected or deleted
- Withdraw newsletter consent at any time (every email includes an unsubscribe option once a real sending provider is connected; in the meantime, contact us directly and it will be handled manually)
- Change your cookie preference at any time via the footer link
